Purpose of the Parent and Player Resource Page.
The Parent and Player Resource page provides parents and players with valuable information about important topics such as policies and procedures, safety measures, and expectations for players and parents. This information will help ensure a positive and successful experience for everyone.
Roster Size
New Rochelle Knights Baseball, we carefully manage our roster sizes to ensure a balanced approach to player development, safety, and team competitiveness. We typically carry between 13-15 positional players on a roster for each team. This approach is rooted in a fundamental understanding of player safety and baseball nuances at a competitive level. It moves beyond the "every player gets equal playing time" mindset common at the lower levels.
Player Safety & Positional Depth
Our athletes' well-being is our top priority. Maintaining a robust roster allows us to:
- Prevent Arm Injuries: Pitchers will not play a second game on the same day or go directly to the field after pitching. Having multiple pitchers on the roster ensures that every arm gets the proper rest and recovery needed to stay healthy throughout the season.
- Protecting Catchers: Catchers face significant physical demands. By having at least two catchers on each roster, we can ensure they do not catch two games in a row, allowing for proper rest and reducing the risk of fatigue-related injuries.
- Ensure Proper Recovery: As players transition to a bigger field, the physical demands of the game increase. Our roster philosophy allows for appropriate rest periods between games and practices, which is crucial for player development and injury prevention.
Team Competitiveness & Contingency
While we emphasize development, we also strive to compete at a high level. Maintaining a proper roster sizes provides crucial depth and stability, particularly given the potential for player and parent scheduling conflicts and injuries throughout a long season. Having proper roster sizes ensures we always have a competitive lineup and are not forced to forfeit or play with an understaffed roster. This can impact the entire team's experience.
By maintaining proper roster sizes, we can prioritize player health while still being prepared for every challenge the season brings. This philosophy is key to our success and is a major reason why our athletes can perform at their highest level, safely and effectively, week after week.
